The large
artificial island in Tokyo Bay, Japan is Odaiba. Odaiba is home to a popular
shopping and entertainment district as well as the headquarters of a major
Japanese television network. The artificial island of Odaiba, with all its
futuristic buildings, entertainment and shopping centers could also be a huge
theme park to be.
It was
originally constructed in 1851 by the Tokugawa shogun ate as a series of 6
fortresses in order to protect Tokyo from attack by sea, the primary threat
being Commodore Matthew Perry's Black Ships, which had arrived in the same
year. Daiba in Japanese refers to the cannon batteries placed on the islands. In the late 80s, a
futuristic redevelopment was planned for Odaiba. It becomes the new residential
and commercial showcase of futuristic living. In 90s, the area was rezoned from pure business
to allow also commercial and entertainment districts, and the area started
coming back to life as Tokyo discovered the seaside it never had. Hotels and
shopping malls opened up, several large companies.
Odaiba itself is the perfect place to host this humongous tribute to
geekery, a statue that fits in well among the hyper-modern buildings and
strange architecture. Today, the island is a mix of Las Vegas and Disneyland:
it is oriented towards family entertainment but has a lot more fun activities
for adults. Here are some of the landmarks that make the island bring out the
man-child in all of us.
Visitors can find there several places of sightseeing. Fuji
TV studios (the studio tour
is of limited interest unless you speak Japanese and/or are familiar with
Fuji's programming); Decks Tokyo Beach
(this
complex has two sections: the “Seaside Mall” and the newer “Island Mall.”,
which has Little Hong Kong on the 6th and 7th floors. The souvenir shops and
dumpling diners make you feel as if you’ve suddenly stepped into Kowloon); Venus
Fort (a major
feature of the complex is the curved ceiling with the sky painted with the
lighting creating a sunset every thirty minutes); Seaside Park in Odaiba (
You can shop till you drop, take in a museum, get dizzy on a ferries
wheel, drive a car, play games, and sight see your way through the day. It's
fantastic! So, Odaiba is the most thrilling and interesting place to visit!
Enjoy it and spend great time there!
