By the way, there is this peculiar synergy of languages that blend into the so-called Singlish – a mixture of English, Malay and Hokkein dialect. Malay is only spoken by the representatives of Malay group. Chinese dialects (Hokkein, Teochew, Cantonese, Haina and Hakka) are spoken by a lot of people, especially by older representatives of Chinese population, but the policy of introducing Mandarin, the only non-dialect variant of Chinese, adopted by the authorities, has been a success, and nowadays a lot of people speak it even in their home life. The Indians speak Tamil among others, but some of them speak Malay and Hindi.
Singapore is tightly packed with sightseeing spots which makes it very popular among tourists from all around the globe – Jurong BirdPark, Night Safari zoo, the worlds biggest fountain and the world’s biggest man-made waterfall, a big number of museums, theatres and other cultural venues – as well as a vast choice of night life venues and excellent eateries with international and ethnic cuisine to relish.
It is a curious fact often recounted to the tourists that Singapore citizens believe the city to be founded by a Prince who met a lion on its territory, although, according to the scientists, there are no lions in this part of Asia, but only tigers.
