The United Arab Emirates has won admiration among people of all ages thanks to its being a multifaceted recreation area with paradisiacal climate and multiple tourist attractions like elegant and solemn mosques, pieces of contemporary architecture, art and picture galleries and museums.

Dubai is one of the major tourist destinations. The city is characterized by a number of contradictory features in its appearances and culture. Thus, the city is expansively developing new architecture projects, but at the same time municipal authorities invest in reconstructing and repairing old buildings which constitute national culture heritage.  

One of the ancient buildings that have been restored of late is Dubai Museum housed in an old Islamic style fortress the history of which started back in the beginning of the XIX century. The name of the building is Al-Fahidi Fort and it is generally considered to be the oldest building of the city. It is redundant to say that Dubai Museum is the major attraction of those who want to feel the breath of the history itself and to trace the evolution of Islamic culture, as well as contemporary indigenous artworks like paintings and photographs. The Fort has a fascinating design and solemn setting, its walls being built of shell and coral rubble. The Fort was turned into museum in 1971 by a late Dubai sheikh.

In Dubai Museum tourists can view the exhibits pertaining to different epochs of Islamic culture development; the museum keeps and exhibits artifacts of both local Arabian antiquities and Asian culture heritage. In the museum tourists can witness the routes of the original Arabian lifestyle through elaborately restored accessories and facilities of the then emirate: date orchards, fishing boats, desert nomad?s belongings, a souq and a mosque.

Dubai is an important cultural center of the country. If you are an admirer of fine arts you will have a good time visiting some of the city?s famed art galleries.
